Açaí reduces chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity in experimental breast cancer. No macroscopic differences were observed in the saline + FAC-D (A) and açaí + FAC-D (B) groups, nor in the weight (G) and size (H) of the heart. Microscopic analysis showed increased toxicity with extensive damage in cardiac tissue architecture and muscle fibre loss (#) in the saline + FAC-D group (C, E); however, in the açaí + FAC-D group (D, F) only normal myocardial morphology was observed (*).
