Results of the neuroma size and scar tissue formation index for each group. The neuroma size was smaller in all experimental groups than in the control group and the difference was statistically significant for Groups 3, 4, 5 (p = 0.00013, 0.001, 0.00013, respectively). The scar tissue formation index was lower in Groups 4 and 5 than in the control group and the difference was statistically significant for Group 5 (p = 0.009). Group 1: Control, Group 2: Astragalus mongholicus Bunge, Group 3: Coptis japonica (Thunb.) Makino, Group 4: Aconitum carmichaelii Debeaux, Group 5: Paeonia lactiflora Pall. Neuroma size = ratio of the diameter of the nerve on the site of neurorrhaphy to that on the normal proximal nerve. Scar tissue formation index = ratio of the thickness of the epineural scar tissue to the nerve diameter
