Erythrocytes were either tested for baseline levels of oxidation (untreated cells, UT), or under conditions of oxidative stress (AAPH, black bar). In parallel, erythrocyte cells were exposed to serial dilutions of Polygonum minus before exposure to oxidative stress (dashed bars). The pre-treatment of cells before exposed to oxidative stress resulted in significant cellular antioxidant protection, shown as the dose-dependent reduction in oxidation (measured by fluorescence intensity (FI) of the cells). B. The dose-dependent inhibition of cellular oxidative damage as a result of Polygonum minus treatment is shown, calculated from fluorescence intensity (FI) of samples and controls: (FI(max) – FI(sample)/FI(max)-FI(UT)).
