(A) Shows the number of Colony-forming units (CFU) in lungs of mice infected with M. tuberculosis H37Rv sensitive strain. Beginning on day 60 after infection, mice were treated either with conventional chemotherapy alone (gray bars) or with conventional chemotherapy in combination with UA/OA 3 times/week (white bars). Also shown are values for control (untreated) mice (black bars). (B) The effect of combined treatment on the percentage of lung surface affected by pneumonia. (C) Combined treatment induced significantly higher expressions of TN-α, IFN-γ, and iNOS. Each point corresponds to the mean ± Standard deviation (SD) of four mice groups. Asterisks represent the statistical significance between groups (*P < 0 · 05; **P < 0 · 01).
