EDAC is cytoprotective against raised glutamate and stimulates glutamate uptake. Hippocampal slices from Wistar rats were treated with different concentrations of EDAC (as indicated) or DMSO vehicle in controls, for 1 h, followed by 3 mM glutamate (G3) with or without EDAC. A, B Hippocampal slices were stained with propidium iodide (PI), a marker for dying cells; images from n = 6 slices per experimental group (A) were analysed for PI relative fluorescence as a percentage of the total area of each slice and data plotted as mean ± SEM.
