Effect of STW 5 treatment on relative abundance of Fusobacterium and Methanobrevibacter in rats with DSS induced UC. DSS administration increased Methanobrevibacter A by approximately 2.5 folds compared to vehicle control group. STW 5 succeeded to restore Methanobrevibacter to its normal levels. Meanwhile, DSS slightly decreased Fusobacterium B population and increased levels were caused by STW 5 administration. The microbial concentration expressed as ng per gram of feces was calculated taking 16S rRNA gene copy number into consideration as detailed in the Methods section.
