From: Tanshinone IIA combined with CsA inhibit myocardial cell apoptosis induced by renal ischemia-reperfusion injury in obese rats

Fig. 2

Tanshinone IIA (TIIA) + cyclosporine A (CsA) preserved myocardial architecture in renal ischemia-reperfusion (IR)-induced myocardial injury. Rats were pre-treated with TIIA alone or in combination with CsA followed by removing the right kidney and clamping of the left renal artery for 30 min and reperfusion for 24 h. Sham rats were used as control. Representative photomicrographs of myocardial histology (a), the scale bars represents a length of 200 μm on histology, myocardial injury scores (a) were evaluated under different conditions. The scale bars represents a length of 200 μm on histology. Electron microscope pictures (40000×) of rats myocardial tissue after renal ischemia-reperfusion (IR). Abnormal mitochondrial (paired yellow arrow) morphology show that mitochondrial membrane rupture or swellings, normal mitochondrial (single yellow arrow) morphology type show that mitochondrial membrane smooth and inner carinulae distinct (b), and percentage of damaged mitochondria (b). Data are shown as mean ± SD. *p < 0.05 versus sham group, #p < 0.05 versus IR (obese) group, △p < 0.05 versus TIIA group, ▲p < 0.05 versus CsA group. Data are shown as mean ± SD. *p < 0.05 versus sham group, #p < 0.05 versus IR (obese) group, △p < 0.05 versus TIIA group, ▲p < 0.05 versus CsA group
