Plasma glucose (a) and insulin (b) during an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), area under the curve (AUC) for glucose (c) and insulin (d), and glucose-insulin (G-I) index in sham-operated (sham) rats fed a control diet and ovariectomized rats fed a high-fat high-fructose diet (OHFFD) that received 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) and pioglitazone (PIO). Data for the AUCs were calculated from the glucose and insulin responses. The G-I index was the product of the glucose AUC and insulin AUC for each individual animal. Values are means ±SE for 7–8 animals/group. Data comparisons between groups were performed using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post hoc analysis. * P < 0.05 vs. OHFFD, ‡ P < 0.05 PIO vs. OHFFD
