Photomicrograph of pancreatic islets of experimental rats after 28 days of treatment. a Normal control: Depicted typical rat pancreas with blood capillaries surrounded by centroacinar cells which contain serous acini. b Diabetic control: Observable necrosis and degranulation of serous acini resulted in diminished number of β-cells and islets size. c STZ-glibenclamide: Granulated islets, hyperplasia and restoration of normal cytoarchitecture with regeneration of pancreatic islets. d STZ-GME1: Exocrine region and islets of Langerhans, with scattered β-cells and visible red blood cells. e STZ-GME2: Hyperplasia, granulated islets and mild expansion of pancreatic islets. f STZ-GME3: Evenly distributed and increased number of β-cells with moderate rejuvenated pancreatic islet.
