Effect of lupane on PBMC viability after 1 h (a), 15 h (b) and 24 h (c) of incubation. Peripheral human mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were isolated from buffy coats of healthy adult blood donors through a density gradient method. The cells of a density of 2×105 cells were incubated with different concentrations of lupane or RPMI (negative control) or RPMI plus 2 % ethanol (diluent control) at 37 °C in a humidified atmosphere of 5 % CO2. After that, PBMC viability was assessed by the MTT method. Values represent the mean ± S.E.M. from 4–5 donors ***P < 0.001 compared with the control (ANOVA)
