Effect of phenolic compounds on expression of α-SMA and NF-κB. LTC-14 cells were treated with recombinant TGF-β (10 ng/ml) and rhein at 20 μM, emodin at 4 μM, curcumin at 20 μM or resveratrol at 20 μM. Extracted nuclear and cytoplasmic proteins were subjected to Western blotting analysis. Protein levels of α-SMA in the cytoplasmic fraction were visualized on immunoblots probed with anti-α-SMA (a) whereas levels of NF-κB in the nuclear fraction were probed anti-NF-κB p65 (b) antibodies whereas TUBULIN and Histone H3 were served as loading references of the cytoplasmic and nuclear fractions respectively
