Figure 4From: Essential oil of Melaleuca alternifolia for the treatment of oral candidiasis induced in an immunosuppressed mouse model Macroscopic analysis of candidiasis on the tongue dorsum of mice. Scores obtained from the macroscopic analysis of candidiasis on the tongue dorsum of mice after 24 h of the treatment with essential oil of M. alternifolia or physiological solution for the control group (n = 10 per group). The scores were attributed according to Takakura el al. 2003 as follows: Score 0 (normal), Score 1 (white patches on less than 20% of the surface), Score 2 (white patches covering between 21% and 90% of the surface), Score 3 (white patches on more than 91% of the surface) and Score 4 (thick white patchy pseudomembranes covering more than 91% of the surface). There were no significant differences between the groups treated with M. alternifolia oil and control (Mann-Whitney test, P = 0.3662).Back to article page
