C. Sativum root extract induces cell cycle arrest at G ₂ /M phase in MCF-7 cells. The cell cycle distribution was determined by propidium iodide staining and flow cytometry. MCF-7 cells were treated with the root ethyl acetate extract (276.0 μg/ml) for 24, 48 and 72 h. Untreated cells at each time point were included as controls. The DNA histogram shows the distribution and the percentage of cells in phases of the cell cycle. Results are the mean ± SD of 3 independent experiments. *P < 0.01 compared to the control as tested by the Student’s t-test. Each DNA histogram represents one of the three independent experiments.
