Xanthones III and V are able to scavenge (a) O 2 •− , (b) OH and (c) ONOO in a concentration-dependent manner. In vitro systems of ROS production were assessed and subjected to different concentrations of xanthones (0.5-1,000 μM). Both xanthones showed an effective capacity as scavengers of O2 •−, OH and ONOO. Data are presented as mean values ± S.E.M. of seven experiments per group.
