Figure 4From: Plant proteolytic enzyme papain abrogates angiogenic activation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) in vitro Effect of papain on cell proliferation of HUVEC. HUVEC were seeded into fibronectin coated 96-well microtiterplates and cultured in EGM. After 24 hours medium was changed to EBM containing 10 ng/mL VEGF or 10 ng/mL VEGF and papain at concentrations as indicated. After 72 hours, cell growth was assayed using an MTT-assay kit. Data are shown as optical density at 450 nm with a reference wavelength of 620 nm, mean ± standard error of measurement. Papain exerts a significant inhibition of proliferation at concentrations between 6.25 μg/mL and 100 μg/mL.Back to article page
